Planting begins 2026 Shepard Hill Tree Farm

Arborist-Grown Trees

Much like doctors, arborists care for trees’ health. This often means correcting stresses that originate at planting time or from shortcuts taken at the nursery. Arborist-grown trees avoid many of these issues from the start.

Establishing proper planting height, choosing hardy varieties, and pruning for optimal form and structure can eliminate problems from the beginning — all while promoting optimal health and appearance.

Starting in 2026, Shepard Hill Tree Farm will be planting and growing premium shade and ornamental trees, as well as evergreens and Christmas trees. We’re a few years away from being able to share some great trees with our Midcoast Maine community… but stay tuned!

Why Arborist-Grown?

The Difference Expertise Makes

Most nursery trees are grown quickly, prioritizing volume over quality — this leads to circling roots, improper planting depth, and weak branch structure that creates problems down the road.

At Shepard Hill Tree Farm, every tree will be grown with the same science-based approach we bring to tree care: the right variety for the right climate, proper root development, and pruning for long-term structure and health.

When you plant a Shepard Hill tree, you’re planting decades of expert knowledge alongside it.

The Same Expertise Behind Both

The same arborist knowledge that guides our tree care practice is what shapes how every tree on the farm is grown. From selecting the right variety to establishing healthy root systems from the start — this isn’t a side project. It’s an extension of everything we believe about trees.
